Our Mission and Heritage
Founded as an Indian fellowship in 1968, ICEFC has grown into a multi-generational, multi-cultural congregation. We strive to honor our Indian roots while creating a space that welcomes all people, regardless of background, to worship together and grow spiritually.
ICEFC’S Brief History
The International Community Evangelical Free Church (ICEFC) began in 1968 when a small group of Indian Christians in Chicago came together with a vision for fellowship and worship. From its roots in private gatherings, ICEFC grew into a formally incorporated church in 1973 under the leadership of Rev. M.J. Thomas, who championed a legacy of generosity that extended to supporting global missions. One of these missions enabled a linguist to bring the Bible to a tribal community in India, fostering literacy and establishing a local church. Under Rev. Devasahayam Godwin’s leadership from 1976 to 1986, ICEFC expanded, welcoming new believers and creating ministries for all ages, especially nurturing its youth. Through the challenges of the 1980s and 90s, ICEFC formed a partnership with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA), reflecting shared evangelical values. Originally known as India Christian Fellowship Church, ICEFC embraced its current name to reflect its diverse, international community. Over the years, the church adapted to meet the needs of its congregation, moving to various locations until settling in 2019 at Grace Community Church’s chapel in Lombard, IL. In 2024, Dr. Manikanta Sai Ankem became ICEFC’s pastor, guiding the church toward spiritual maturity, community service, and stronger discipleship.
